There are tons of ways to group and stereotype entrepreneurs — here’s another one.
I typically run across 4 types of entrepreneurs:
Starting in the upper left:
Dreamers: These are some of my favorite people to work with. They love planning, they have big dreams and goals. However, when it comes down to their day-to-day and week-to-week actions, they are lacking in execution. Often times their goals are not broken down into realistic actions. Other times, they need a lot of help in accountability, time management and self-discipline.
Rockstars: Be friends with these people – they’re rocking in their business. They have goals, plans, and complete the daily and weekly actions to reach their goals. They’re high-achievers and may need to work on work-life balance. This is less than 5% of entrepreneurs.
Wingers: These people don’t plan very much in their business, but get a lot done each day and week. The question here: are they doing the RIGHT things to reach their goals? I sometimes refer to this as being “floored on neutral” – tons of energy to do things, but not really going anywhere. If you’re winging it, start with a simple quarterly plan, broken into daily and weekly tasks.
Stuckers: Without a plan and without actually getting very much done, these entrepreneurs typically find themselves stuck in business. They often need help with accountability, mindset, organization and motivation.
We all embody each of these in some ways, but ultimately, what category do you best fall into?
